In The Morning Lights

In the Morning Lights is a labour of patience, love and friendship that ties two very different yet very similar individuals together. Exploring the weirder side of alt-pop, their sound is an obscure amalgamation of lo-fi and polished. Though their music is fundamentally synth driven, ITML incorporates a wealth of found sound and acoustic elements, further accentuating this sonic dichotomy. The vocals of Matilde Mirotti put the final stamp of originality on their sound, with a technicality and tone that elevates their music onto a plane of its own.

Their songs are populated by complicated emotions, characters and stories that have become the pair’s personal commentary on human behaviour. In the Morning Lights is the result of many hours spent in a tiny room among tiny arguments, trying to figure out what to feel and how to say it.

Formed in late 2017 in Leeds, the pair spent several months experimenting with writing and composition before releasing their first track ‘Flowers Grow, which immediately gained support from the wider Leeds music scene. Three years and several releases later ‘In the Morning Lights’ have been championed by the likes of Tom Robinson of 6Music, Shell Zenner of BBC Leeds and Emily Pilbeam of BBC Introducing. Their music has also been supported by Leeds-based organization ‘Music:Leeds’ and indie label ‘Come Play with Me’, who have been working closely with the duo for the past year.

"Grand at times, is delicate at times, but is passionate at all times and fuelled by a big vat of love for their uniquely crafted genre. It’s a combination of alternative pop and hip hop with a dose of electro pop and a splash of romantic dreams.”
Music For The Misfits

"Very unique, magnetic and powerful style. A new and restless sound, one that is not confused."
