Faber Alt. sign sam brookes

We are thrilled to announce that we have signed Bristol-based alternative folk artist Sam Brookes to Faber Alt.

Sam Brookes distinctive voice frequently draws comparisons with Tim Buckley and has landed him features and collaborations with with artists as diverse as Lucy Rose and Basement Jaxx. His 2011 eponymous debut saw him named as Sunday Times ‘Breaking Act’ and his independently released follow up ‘Kairos’ was picked as one of the best albums of 2014 by The Independent. Considerable streaming success and support slots for the likes of Willy mason, Scott Matthews and Joan Armatrading have earned Sam a dedicated following and growing anticipation for his third album.

Sam’s single ‘My Girl Drinks Coffee’ (2017), his first for over two years, marked an exciting shift in the Sam Brookes sound. Already well known as an idiosyncratic singer-songwriter, Sam challenged himself to expand his sonic pallet, spending a few years out the game gigging and experimenting with new material. The end result is an immediate and ethereal work of chic melancholy, built on synthesised textures that devilishly underpin his soaring signature vocal. Jointly produced by Grammy nominated Dom Monks (Ray Lamontagne, Laura Marling & Katie Melua) and Berlin based ex-pat Greg Freeman (Goldfrapp, Portico, Mumford & Sons), the track was arranged and recorded on a trip to a remote boathouse on the Isle of Skye and completed at Guy Chamber’s Sleeper Sounds studio in London, where the production duo truly realised Sam’s dark but dancey vision.
