Alfa Mist Signs to Faber Alt.

We are excited to announce that we have signed British musician, pianist, producer and songwriter, Alfa Mist, to the Faber Alt. roster, the home of Faber Music's alternative, non-classical writers and artists.

Originally from Newham, East London. Alfa began his trip through music as a Grime & Hip Hop producer. As with many contemporary beatmakers Alfa's sample digging opened up a world of vintage sounds including soundtracks & Jazz. Both a self-taught pianist and accomplished producer Alfa's roots can be traced through Dilla & The Roots back to Thelonius Monk & Avishai Cohen.

Alfa has established himself as one of the UK’s most focused, in-demand and distinct musical voices. He has worked with the likes of Jordan Rakei and Tom Misch. Artists look to him for his unique blend of intimate bedroom production and expansive jazz group orchestration, since Alfa is yet to be boxed into a specific genre. His music spans everything from hip-hop beat-making to producing for artists such as rapper Loyle Carner, composing neo-classical works for the London Contemporary Orchestra, and reworking tracks from composer Ólafur Arnalds and pioneering jazz label Blue Note.

Building on the success of 2017’s debut album, Antiphon, (which has amassed over 10 million views on YouTube), 2019’s Structuralism and 2021’s Bring Backs, Alfa’s fifth album, Variables, finds him moving forwards with renewed intensity and purpose. “I’ve been focused on who I am in my music, but now I’m exploring where I am.” he says. “I’m asking: how did I get here?”

Traversing luscious, big band swing, head-nodding boom-bap rhythms and yearning melodies, Variables (Alfa’s second release for the ANTI- label) is expansive, soulful and moving in both body and spirit. Alfa achieves here his most maturely expressive music work to date, conjoining looping, memorable piano lines with subtle grooves and free-flowing jazz improvisation.

Alfa will be touring later this month for a round of various festivals and then in October, he’ll be performing a selection of UK and European dates finishing the tour in London at HERE at Outernet.
