Lara Somogyi signs to Faber Alt.
We are really excited to announce LA-based harpist and contemporary classical performer-composer, Lara Somogyi, has signed to the Faber Alt. roster
Lara is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in London, and in 2018 was awarded as an honorary Associate of the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM) for her contributions to her field.
In addition to being a composer-performer, she is also an active session harpist - recording in a wide range of genres for Film and TV, from sessions with the London Symphony Orchestra to Rufus Wainwright and Bonobo. Lara is often called upon for her unique combination of electroacoustic harp and FX pedals to compose alongside other artists and as a live performer.
Most recently, Lara released her debut solo album, ! (pronounced “Exclamation”), with Mercury KX, and will be expanding on this with a deluxe version on October 20th, named ! (expansion). Its first single, ‘acceptances (orchestral version)’ is released today. You can read more about the new release HERE.
The original album builds a new creative sound world – an atmosphere – based around the harp, its expressive capabilities and its electronics. It is the result of a decade-long dive into sonic exploration, which pushes the harp to its furthest potential. Here, we are introduced to a whole world of sound from a single instrument. She explains, “Every single sound you hear on the album comes directly from the harp. I wanted to express everything this instrument can do.” The results are electrifying. It’s about shifting people’s perspective of the harp, changing the worlds that it operates within, and bringing in electronic sounds with an array of guitar pedals and loops.
